Documentary at mac: The Presence of Absence in the Ruins of Kafr Bir’im
Elderly poet Ibrahim Essa's words speak loud and clear for generations of people with ties to Kafr Bir'im, a Palestinian village in Northern Galilee. Shot on location in the ruins and cemetery of Kafr Bir'im, Professor John Halaka's documentary captures Essa's pain, sorrow and frustration but also his yearning for peace and justice. This special event screening will be followed by a post-screening discussion and Q & A.

Disability Film Festival
Wolverhampton’s first Disability Film Festival will bring work from regional, national and international disabled filmmakers to the big screen as the culmination of Wolverhampton Disability Arts Festival.
Featuring a wide variety of genres and styles, including documentary, drama, comedy and animation, both feature length and short films, the festival aims to celebrate the talents of disabled filmmakers, stimulate debate and give disabled people an opportunity to showcase their artistic talents.

Cinemaphonic: Broadcast
A performance of haunted vocal improvisations and cassette echoes from Broadcast over the beautiful and strangely static landscapes of Peter Greenaway's early film, Vertical Features Remake. Incorporating the original soundtrack, Trish Keenan's filtered voice exists in an English countryside uninhabited by humans and unnerved by birdsong, giant plant pods, ominous rumblings and streams of ghostly feed-back.

Documentary at mac: Liberation, Third Cinema & The Hour of the Furnaces
The political ferment that accompanied decolonisation and independence struggles during the 1960s gave birth to the ‘Third Cinema' movement in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Filmmakers saw themselves as activists making work contributing to the fight against political oppression. Pervaiz Khan (programmer Third Cinema Focus 1987-93, ex-contributing editor of Sight & Sound) will lead a discussion on significance of Third Cinema as well as show extracts from the rarely seen founding documentary of the movement the underground classic The Hour of The Furnaces.
