MediaBox Regional Priorities

The West Midlands region is a priority area for Mediabox this year so would like to encourage a wide range of high quality applications. In particular a number of focus areas were poorly represented in last year’s applications and awarded grants so we will give additional priority to projects which target any of the following:

Applicant Organisations
Community groups, youth organisations and media companies. We recommend organisations seek partners to support their project i.e. youth and community organisations should seek a media partner and media companies should seek a partner with experience in working with hard to reach young people.

Special Focus Groups
The Mediabox scheme aims to fund projects which will provide opportunities for hard to reach young people. In the West Midlands young offenders and those at risk of offending, young carers, young parents and refugee and asylum seekers are groups we are keen to see represented in applications this year.

Age Group
Mediabox supports young people aged 13-19, with opportunities for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities to apply up to the age of 25 (you are advised to seek clarification on this before applying). In the West Midlands, young people aged 13-15 were under-represented last year so we would be keen to see projects working with these age groups.

Media Form
In line with the national pattern, the majority of projects supported used film and television as their medium. Therefore this year we are keen to support projects which use other media forms. No projects were funded last year using interactive media and games so we would particularly encourage projects of this type as well projects using radio, mixed media advertising campaigns, photography, print and graphic novels.

Geographical reach
We would like to encourage applications from outside Birmingham and the West Midlands Metropolitan area which was well supported in comparison with the rest of the region last year.

Please note that these regional priorities should be considered in addition to the national guidelines to for the Mediabox scheme. You can find the full guidelines at www.media-box.co.uk. You are strongly advised to seek pre-application support from Lou Llewellyn, West Midlands Mediabox Coordinator before submitting an application. Lou can be contacted on 0121 265 7120 or via lou.llewellyn@screenwm.co.uk.
