So, after a bumper year for applications to our digishorts scheme, six weeks spent intensively developing a shortlist of around 20 projects, and two days of back-to-back pitch sessions, we've picked our 'Big 5' commissions.
It hasn't been easy - it really hasn't been easy - but we're delighted to present to you the class of 2009's digishorts:
'Ladies Loos'
From filmmaker Nerina Villa and producer Angela Slater, this off-the-wall documentary aims to lift the lid (so to speak) on what really happens in the ladies'...
'Studs'
Simon Bovey, writer and director of 2005's runaway success 'The Un-Gone' (60+ festivals and counting) returns with something completely different - a high-octane action-drama set in the world of rugby...
'The Surfer'
Stage and screen actor Dominic Coleman ('Special People', 'Clubbed') writes and directs this pathos-laden documentary about a surfing enthusiast.
'Stained'
Hard-hitting prison drama from director Lewis Arnold and producer Tom Knight, the team who brought us the 2008 digishort 'Spirited'. The script is adapted from a chapter of 'Screwed', an uncompromising real-life account of life as a prison guard by Ronnie Thompson, who co-writes here with Colin Butts.
'Trolley'
A charming and emotional drama about a supermarket trolley attendant with a vivid imagination, from writer/director Anna Louise Shelton and producer Rachel Carter.
Top of the lucky five teams' in-trays will be some top-quality workshops courtesy of our friends over at the Script Factory, before embarking on more development with Screen WM and the UK Film Council and of course, putting their ideas in front of the camera and bringing them to life.
Watch this space for more info and news on the films as they progress, and of course commiserations to those projects that didn't make the final 5 - it's been fiercely competitive this year and to get on the shortlist is an achievement in itself...
