Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council, Mental Health Empowerment Team presents a special screening of Poppy Shakespeare as part of World Mental Health Day 2008.
Produced by Cowboy Films, Poppy Shakespeare was first screened on Channel 4 in March 2008. This screen adaptation from the bestselling book by author Clare Allan is a work of fiction the author admits would never have been written without her own experiences as a patient in the psychiatric system. A tale of unlikely friendship in a north London psychiatric ward, Poppy Shakespeare stars Naomie Harris (Pirates of the Caribbean) as Poppy and Anna Maxwell Martin (Becoming Jane) as “N”. New arrival Poppy convinces 13 year veteran “N” to help her escape by proving that she is sane – but in doing so she must pretend to be mad. All Welcome. Cost: free.
