Mediabox
Screen WM is pleased to be the West Midlands’ regional partner for Mediabox. We offer advice and support to anyone from the region who would like to make an application for Mediabox funding.

What is Mediabox?
Mediabox is an £8.25 million fund from The Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Department of Communities and Local Government. It is administered by a consortium of First Light Movies, Media Trust, Skillset and the UK Film Council.
Mediabox offers disadvantaged 13-19 year olds the opportunity to develop and produce creative media projects, using film, television, print, radio or interactive platforms. Mediabox is for young people to: express their own opinions, ideas and views, gain new skills, encourage creativity, boost personal development and get their voices heard.
Mediabox Funding Schemes
Mediabox has 5 different funding streams available with grants ranging from £500 - £40,000. Each scheme has its own specific guidelines and deadlines. We suggest you follow the link to the Mediabox website to download the latest version of the guidelines and then contact Lou Llewellyn for further advice and support in preparing your application.
Big Mediabox and Big Mediabox Contract
Grants between £20,000 and £40,000
Big Mediabox is the scheme's largest grant, designed for organisations with a strong track record of developing media projects with young people. This grant can assist organisations to deliver new programmes that allow a larger group of young people to work collaboratively. Match funding of 40% of the total project cost is required, 20% of which must be cash.
Big Mediabox Contract is a large grant that will support organisations to manage and deliver a regional bursary project for disadvantaged young people aged 13-19. Organisations can apply for £40,000 to distribute in small grants of £500-£1000 to individual young people (or young people working in small groups) across the English regions. It is designed for lead organisations whose main business is to work with and support disadvantaged young people, such as Pupil Referral Units, Youth Offending Institutions, Charities and Community Organisations.
IMPORTANT - Applicants interested in this strand should speak to their regional Mediabox Co-ordinator before starting a application.
Mid Mediabox
Grants between £5,000 - £20,000
Mid Mediabox is a mid-level grant open to established youth organisations that may or may not have delivered media projects in the past. This grant can be used to develop a new creative idea and/or to promote a completed youth-led media project to a wider audience.
Mix Mediabox
Grants between £5,000 - £20,000
Mix Mediabox is designed for organisations that bring young people from diverse ethnic, economic backgrounds, faiths or areas together to work on a media project, providing young people with the opportunity to explore issues around identity, diversity, sense of belonging in their community and in doing so tell their own stories and experiences in a creative way.
Mini Mediabox
Grants between £1,000 - £5,000
Mini-Mediabox is for grassroots and community organisations with a relatively small turnover. This is an entry-level grant with a quick and easy application process, designed to enable smaller organisations to access funding for their youth-led projects.
My Mediabox
Through the My Mediabox scheme we run high profile partnerships with media companies throughout the year offering individual young people funding for a one-off media project, along with specialist production training.
Mediabox partnerships, which to date have included the Daily Mirror, Bebo, ITV Local, Community Channel and Channel 4, enable the work of young people to reach the widest possible audience.
