Media & Film Education
Screen WM is committed to fostering public participation, understanding and creative engagement with all forms of moving image product, especially as tools for learning and as a vehicle for individual creativity.

We are working to develop media and film education and media literacy in line with the strategies laid out in the recently published UK Wide Film Education Strategy Film: 21st Century Literacy and Switching On To Media Literacy. Our aim is to encourage critical understanding and debate about media, films and film making across a diverse range of communities, with a particular focus on under 19’s, in line with priorities identified in Film: 21st Century Literacy.
We are continuing to broker effective strategic partnerships with organisations such as Film Education, First Light, BFI and Film Clubs and partner on national initiatives such as National Schools Film Week , Find Your Talent and Adult Learners’ Week. We are also supporting media and film education activity through collaboration with delivery partners such as the Rural Media Company and by investing in education projects through our Investment Fund. We are also regional delivery partners for Mediabox.
We hold termly a Media and Film Education Forum for those working in media and film education and media literacy in the region. These meetings are an opportunity to hear about latest developments, share good practice and network with others in this field. To complement these meetings our media and film education Resource Base service provides links to organisations and online resources which can support practitioners and teachers.
More details on the education projects supported by Screen WM can be found on our Case Studies page.
