
"Sikh, Rattle and Roll", the short film written and produced by Yugesh Walia at Endboard Productions, and co-financed by Screen WM and Carlton Television won the 'Best Children's Film' Award and a $2500 prize.
The short film has previously been screened at Birmingham International Film Festival,
Bite the Mango Festival,Spinning Wheel Festival in Ontario and New York, as well as the
New York Sikh Film Festival.
It tells the story of a 14 year-old boy, who loves Elvis and football as he approaches a big day which marks his passage into adult life. It involves tying his turban for the first time. His friend’s tease him; his mother reassures him, but he is fearful and apprehensive about his new identity. How will he relate to his new look and his love for all things Elvis?
The film is directed by Ekta Walia who has worked for several independent TV companies in Birmingham on programmes for BBC, ITV and Channel 4. She has also been involved in many short dramas in the region including Bouncer (Bafta nominated). Her previous short film 'Cathy and I' won an RTS Midlands award in 2005 and was short listed for the British Council’s Satyajit Ray Award.
