‘A House on the Moon’, the documentary and animation made by Light House Productions in conjunction with English Touring Opera (ETO), has been nominated for a Royal Television Society Midlands Award in the Best Corporate/Non-Broadcast category. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 25 October 2008.
In 2007 the education department of the ETO commissioned a brand new community opera based on refugees experiences of coming to the UK. This new work combined both Eastern and Western classical forms, exploring the journey many people are forced to make to this country. This multi-cultural production included an animated backdrop created especially for this performance by students from St Peter’s Collegiate Church of England School, facilitated by Light House’s Education coordinator Kathryn Kliszat. The Students worked alongside freelance animator Babis Alexiadis.
The full-length piece was performed twice at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre in June 2007 to enthusiastic audiences. Light House Productions, Director Nerina Villa and Producer Urmala Jassal followed all the action during rehearsals and highlights of the final performance in a behind-the-scenes documentary. The animation and documentary have been jointly nominated in the Best Corporate/Non-Broadcast category. Director Nerina Villa said, “Working with the English Touring Opera was such an inspiring process and we are really pleased that the film is having an impact. It's very exciting."
