Digishorts at Hello Digital, Saturday 25th October at 15:30
Millennium Point, Birmingham
Birmingham Animator Stephen Spencer will start the event, discussing his experiences on 2008 digishort 'Momster', a mixture of animation and live action.
We are then delighted to be able to hear from those who have made the leap from shorts to features: how did this has happen for them, and do they have any tips … The people on hand to answer your questions are:
Geoff Thompson - Writer
After a successful 10 year career as a writer of non-fiction and stage plays, Geoff wrote his first short film 'Bouncer' in 2002, earning him a BAFTA nomination. Geoff's first feature, 'Clubbed', is an adaptation of his best selling biography Watch My Back, and recently screened to great acclaim at Dinard Festival in 2008. He is currently developing two feature films.
Justin Edgar - Filmmaker
After a childhood spent in dark rooms watching films, Justin graduated from Portsmouth University with a First Class degree in Film. He directed the short comedy 'Dirty Phonecalls' for ITV's First Cut scheme. It became a worldwide festival hit and won the 1998 BBC Drama Award at the Birmingham Film Festival. Justin has recently completed his second feature 'Special People', based on his own short of the same name, which opened the London Disability Film Festival in 2008.
Samm Haillay - Producer
Samm Haillay's production company Third Films has won over 40 international awards for it's short films alone. Samm has just completed his first feature as producer 'Better Things', which was also the first feature of director Duane Hopkins, and is being released by Soda Pictures. As well as producing all Duane's film and art work, Samm is also developing features with a number of talented directors such as Sean Conway and Daniel Elliott.
