A Birmingham based film company has won the award for Best Up and Coming Producers at the Newport International Film Festival for their superhero comedy feature.
Roys Boys Films succesfully competed against over 300 other films to win the prestigious award.
The NiFF was established to Showcase the best in British & World Independant Film with a focus on Welsh Talent. The festival aims to give budding film-makers a great platform to screen their films, and great venues for the audience to watch them in.
Roys Boys debut feature film Homemade Vigilante (2009) tells the comic story of Darren Unsworth, an office worker who dreams of becoming a superhero and cleaning up the streets of Wolverhampton.
The comedy was filmed entirely on location in Birmingham and Wolverhampton using local cast and crew.
Despite its recent completion the film has already had significant success. It made the official selection for the International Film Festival Ireland, and the Swansea Bay Film Festival. The film has won awards at the Accolade Film Festival, and The Indies (both based in the US). Most recently it was one of only 15 films from across the world chosen as part of Anchorage Film Festival, Alaska. It had its UK premiere at the Lighthouse Cinema, Wolverhampton, as part of Screen Forum.
