Birmingham-based 104 films have scored a double whammy at the BAFTAs. The company behind the feature film Special People have been nominated twice for their film Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll.
Now lead actor Andy Serkis is hotly tipped to win against strong competition from Colin Firth and Jeff Bridges. Chaz Jankel is also nominated in the best music category. 104 were asked to co-produce the film by producer Damian Jones who admired the way they have dealt with disability themes in previous work.
104 films are strategic partners to the UK Film Council and run The Magic Hour short film scheme for disabled filmmakers. The Magic Hour is designed to create a tectonic shift in the presence of disabled people in UK film. 104 films have also been awarded a UK Film Council Producers Vision Award to develop feature films with disabled film talent and themes.
The story of punk legend Ian Dury, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll starring Andy Serkis, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Olivia Williams, Naomi Harris, Mackenize Crook and Noel Clarke is currently out in cinemas.
