The Generation Next Programme 2010

Ten week paid internships starting 9th August

We want to see the real you.  Your ideas.  Your imagination.  Your unique way of thinking.  And in return, you'll get ten weeks working with us.  Channel 4 is the place for everyone with ideas, talent and passion.  So now's your chance to find out what makes us tick - and whether you're cut out for a career in the media industry.  Your background, age, qualifications, experience...none of that stuff matters.  We're looking for some fresh perspectives.  Some new viewpoints.  We want something different.

This internship will take place from 9th August - 15th October 2010.  You must be available to complete this placement during those dates.

We plan to invite successful applicants to an assessment centre on 15th July 2010.

Department Description
4iP (4 Innovation for the Public) is Channel 4's innovation department for public service digital media, launched in 2008.  The remit of 4iP is to invest in websites, tools, applications, games and services in digital media that resonate with the core audiences of Channel 4.

The department has partnerships at its heart.  To succeed, 4iP needs to work effectively with our funding partners, such as Screen WM and Screen Yorkshire, and with a range of new suppliers of content and services.

4iP was established as a pilot project in October 2008 and will run for three years, with its vision to become a core part of the Corporation's ongoing activities.

4iP has a base in Channel 4's head office in London and a network of digital commissioning managers in the nations and regions with offices in the West Midlands and Yorkshire.  It is part of Channel 4's Future Media and Technology division which is led by Jon Gisby.

Job Purpose
To provide support to the 4iP team around the creative assessment and development of projects from external suppliers.  The position will be based out of the 4iP office in Birmingham, with at least two days a week spent with the full 4iP team in Channel 4's London offices.  Travel and accommodation for days spent in London will be covered.  In addition, time will be spent with suppliers who are currently producing projects for 4iP.

  • Working closely with the Digital Commissioner in Birmingham to creatively assess supplier proposals, manage projects and work to secure match funding from partners.
  • Developing proposals with companies who are submitting to 4iP and guiding them through the process.
  • Assisting companies who are currently working with 4iP around the creative and technical elements of their projects.
  • Helping to organise events around creative briefs.
