The West Midlands: A great place to make films

Straightheads, filmed in the Wyre Forest and financed through our Film and Media Production Fund
Screen WM encourages film and programme making in the West Midlands through talent development, feature film financing and facilitating productions.
We support development financing for both feature and broadcast projects, averaging at 28 successful projects a year. Through digishorts we have supported over 40 of the region's filmmakers to develop, produce and distribute their short. We are now supporting short film production and completion through the Investment Fund. Our Film and Media Production Fund has invested over £1 million in features over the past two years, with a further £4 million by 2010.
Filming in the West Midlands
The West Midlands region covers six counties in the heart of England: Birmingham and The Black Country, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. The region’s capital, Birmingham, is 90 minutes from London, has excellent road, rail and air links and is easy to reach from any part of the UK.
The West Midlands has a thriving economy as well as a prestigious historical heritage. The diverse locations include the bleak, windswept Staffordshire Moorlands; the Tudor villages of Herefordshire; the manufacturing heartland of the West Midlands, home of the Industrial Revolution; the rolling hills of Shropshire; and the historical town of Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. From suburban sprawls and modern cities, prestigious mansions and regal castles, to majestic countryside and exquisite scenery, the West Midlands can offer you everything you need for filming.
